I have alway used the oil from my palms to condition a strop. I'll hold spare change or something, in my fist to produce more oil from my hands. I've been tempted to use... Ta-da! Shaving cream. It's worked like a charm on all my baseball gloves since I was 9 years old. But my hand sweat works well enough for me. I'll be watching this thread for more input from you guys.

I use 3in1 oil on one of my strops. I have also used Vaseline on leather goods including strops. I do not think that it is nice as neatsfoot oil or something that is made for leather but it works OK. Just make sure you do not use a drying oil (linseed, tung, walnut) or an oil that will go rancid. If I only had one strop I would use nothing at all, or a product that is made for leather.

A while back I bought a strop from ChrisL, and asked him what I should use on it. He said with a new strop rubbing it with the palm of my hand, the oil from your hand was all it needed. Been working fine for me. On a vintage strop that has dried out some I've used plain old mineral oil to bring it back to life.
