No oil came with my TM either so don't feel bad. You know what, it sounds like it's not broken in. Do you have Tony's phone number...? I know he won't do business on Sunday. You know he's like Amish light, right....Anyway, if you pm me, I'll give you his phone number. He loves to talk shop. Tell him your woes. I think your strop needs breaking in. Tony may have advice...he's a good guy, you shouldn't be having trouble. I know he'll make it right.....Rich

Bob,
I don't always see the PMs, particularly those sent through B&B although I found it now that I saw your post. It is best to contact me right through my storefront or an email, I would have gotton back to you immediately if you had an issue with any of my products. my apoligies.
While I don't do business on Sunday I'd be glad to talk with you on Monday. Sounds like it just needs a little oil and a good rubbing.
Thanks,
Tony
PS, Zib I got a laugh out of the "Amish Lite" comment. Lorrie and I are Brethren (Dunkers)actually, closer to Mennonites than Amish.Last edited by Tony Miller; 10-25-2009 at 05:56 PM.

I started off with a vintage Red Imp. I looked for one of those in particular because I noticed a number of pro barbers used that brand when I was growing up. Good strop. I did the requisite reading on the forum and bought a 2 1/2 horse/latigoTony Miller just to see what all the fuss was about. I later ordered his linen in that size and added the third component.
This became my go to strop for the longest time. Later I bought the same thing in a 3" and tried it. Both of these strops had a lot of draw on the latigo and very little on the horse. I put the 3" away and continued to use the 2 1/2 as my main strop. It was already nicked up a bit and I figured I'd save the 3" until I was more sure of myself.
Time passed and I tried an SRD Latigo and found it had too much draw to suit me. So I ordered the premium 1 leather and replaced the latigo component with the premium 1 and found it to be perfect in the draw department for my hand. Not as much as the TM latigo or the SRD latigo but more than the horse.
Funny thing is that I got the 3" TM out and hung it the other day. Did some stropping on it and didn't find the draw on the latigo too much for my hand like I did when I first got it. I guess the year + since then I've gotten a bit better at stropping. At least I don't fear nicking my strop anymore.
As far as comparing one brand to the other..... they are both first class in the workmanship department and I would recommend either one to anyone looking for a strop.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
