Thanked: 2Homemade Strop
So I heard the talk of making a stop out of denim so I decided to give it a shot. The stop is about 20" long and 3" wide. The fastening device is a little rough but it works and holds up well. I simply used some chain mail rings and a key ring so I can hang it off of my towel hook. Let me know what you all think, don't be too harsh

how do you like the edge off of that strop? I hold to the belief that if you try a new way of doing things and it works, all the better. Creativity and innovation are great qualities that have a way of rewarding not only the innovator, but everyone

Thanked: 2I like how it works. I guess you could compare it to a linen stop but I feel that the denim works rather well and possibly better than regular linen strops. I would say try your hand and make one and see how it works for you. Some might hate the denim, so I suppose it all comes down to personal choice.

Seeing it on that faucet makes me cringe. My nerves go haywire thinking of you stropping and working that seal loose, ending up with a leak.
Very good looking and if it works...grand.
For future reference.."strop".

Thanked: 2O no, I don't hang it on the faucet when I strop, the light was funny when I tried to take a picture of it on the hook. The last thing I need is an injury or a flood.

Thanked: 125Not bad! Should be great for pastes and/or crox.
A little recommendation: Check out your local hardware store and pick up some D rings, and rivet screws (These are basically rivets, where a threaded bolt screws into the hollow "rivet" end) . It'll really clean up that top and make it look nice and clean.

Great...saw another member who posted his construction of a paddle strop faced with denim that he used w/paste I believe...said it felt good to work with and produced a good result...one of the nice/fun things about SRP is all the things people come up with...enjoyable use of time!

Thanked: 4Nice one! It has given me an idea for what I can do with an old pair of jeans. I suspect that denim works much the same way as the canvas or linen strop but may be a little softer because of the size of the thread of the denim.

I've got a flatbed hone made from denim and it works very well. I have 0.5 diamond paste on mine, good stuff!
