Yeah, I think that's why it works out for me... I don't always go for the comics, but really anywhere where there is a heavy concentration of print/ink. I usually find some good dark or print heavy frames (in the comics) and it serves me well.
As a side note, I have also stropped with a print heavy section of the yellowpages a few times... I'd have to experiment over a longer time period, but it seemed to be working in a similar way.

I've played around a bit with CrO several years ago, but I've
been stubborn like Jimmy and tried to get the best possible
edges off the hones.
Lately I've been interested in the purported effectiveness of
the 0.5 diamond spray on hard felt wool from SRD, so that's
on order to me at the moment.

As I recall when I started I got an assortment of pastes like the yellow and white and green as I recall probably from TI or Dovo but really never used any of them. I probably still have them somewhere. These days I have two bench strops with .5 and .25 diamond on them and CrO and mainly reserve them for certain blades that seem to do better with them.

Thanked: 7I use crox and very occasionally Thiers-Issard white paste. I find as I get better at honing, I tend to go to pasted strops less often.

Thanked: 37I use diamond paste and CrOx on balsa. The diamond is 1.0 and 0.5 micron. I then finish with 5-10 laps of CrOx.

0.5 micron diamond (SRD) on a felt paddle, CrOx on a leather paddle; I am going to make up a denim paddle like yours this weekend
Have fun !

I never use pastes anymore, I used to love Chromium Oxide though. I haven't had any issues with my razors needing extra sharpness or smoothness after the hones lately, so I haven't touched any pastes in months. I think finishing on a 12K naniwa or an old Thuringian gives an edge shave readiness.

Can anyone confirm the efficacy of going from 0.25 diamond paste to 0.1 Cubic Boron Nitride on balsa hones?
