Oops - Nicked my strop.
I can't imagine I'm the only person to have done this: while flipping the razor over at the top of the strop for the downward pass, the edge caught and produced a centimetre-long cut in the leather. It's very thin, and when I drag my finger along the leather, it lifts up like a page from a book. I know it's nothing serious, and I picked half of it off with my finger nail, deciding to simply strop over top of the little bit of damage.
What do you fellas do in these situations?
(Or do you just not damage your strops at all? Heh heh. )
Another thing: my leather is starting to discolour in some spots. Probably where my fingers have touched it. I try to avoid touching the stropping surface, but it happens from time to time.
What's the consensus here? Is a sometimes-nicked, worked in, somewhat discoloured strop the kind of strop to have, or are there ways to keep it in like-new condition?

I have a cut like that in my strop...I have a cheap one that I got off ebay and I just ignore it.

Use fine grit sandpaper (~600 grit) and sand the cut mark away. After that, condition your strop with couple of pea sizes of your favorite strop conditioner. That will help the stains, too. Don't use it in the next 24 hours. After that, use with care.

Depending on the depth of the cut you can try to superglue the flap down; once it dries use sandpaper to smooth the edge & apply conditioner as Nenad said.

I would avoid using superglue, as it might damage the edge later, when running over it. And using pumice stone is better idea than sandpaper, minimizes the chance of embedded particles in the leather...

I did that a while back. Pumice stone strop conditioner and back in business.

Thanked: 4I did the pumice stone thing as well, but I cleaned the strop with plain Gojo afterwards 'cause I'm really paranoid about any possible pumice particles meeting the razor.
