Thoughts on what strop to buy?
I bought a strop from an antique store a while ago and that is what I've been using for my razor. I bought the razor from Bob's Razors and when I got it it was great. This was almost a year ago and since then, well, it could be better. I've been touching it up on a barber's hone as needed and stropping daily on my antique store strop.
I think that it might do me good to buy a new, quality strop but I have no idea which to buy. I'm not really concerned with aesthetics (I save that for the razors), only quality and price. Any thoughts on a new (or used but quality) strop?
Thanks,
Todd

Thanked: 102Strop
For a good value in a strop, I would look at the Illinois No. 361. I have one of the old model 992 strops which is no longer made and it is as good as any strop that i have seen or used.

The SRD strops are great, I've got a 3" black latigo and my dad has the extra long PIV and both are really superb.
I also have one of MickR's roo strops which is really great as well. Wonderful soft leather, lots of smooth draw and it puts a killer edge on the blade.
I'd recommend any of these strops to anyone, they're all great!

Thanked: 993I'm with Stubear on this one. The SRD strops are fantastic in my opinion. I have both the Premium IV and the Premium I. I prefer the soft, supple feeling of the Premium I.
With any of the SRD strops you'll be quite happy.

Any quality strop will do the job. The differences to me are the hardware and leather type which give a different feel making some more luxurious to use than others. Basically once you decide on a size and type you can buy from any of our vendors here and you won't go wrong. You can also buy vintage but then you need to be careful but many of the old vintage strops were very high quality probably exceeding most modern ones.

SRD Premium 1 is awesome and the SRD English Bridle I heard is really nice too.
