I think, Just in case I am going to order a whole new setup from SRD. Does anybody have any suggestions on a set up I could pick up for about $150-$200. I am looking for a razor and strop. I am looking at the Dovo 5/8 and the premium leather strop. Think that will eliminate all of the outside variables, and leave the quality of the shave up to my stropping and shaving skill.

-Sorry if this thread went off topic. Sometimes, in my head, one question leads to another.

ANother nice thing about SRD strops is they're modular. After your technique improves, you can replace the nicked up lather (and you will nick it; everyone does!) w/ something nicer w/o buying a whole new strop. FOr that reason I'd recommend going w/ something like their latigo (cheaper), since in the beginning you will have stropping "accidents".

Is there the possibility of sending your razor to someone around you (geographically) to have it honed? It's much less than $150 to have this completed. Just a thought.

Yes, JimR is close enough, and even offered to help once. But if I go that route I don't get another razor out of the deal. I like the idea of another razor around.
By the way, JimR is a real stand up guy. He has answered all of my questions and is very knowledgeable. He even offered to lend me a old razor of his to practice my honing skill. Thank you so much, JimR.
