this would probably work. I don´t know for sure, though. I would try it without ultrasonic and see what happens.
One of the problems I heard of was, the powder itself sticks together and forms (sort of) polycristalline diamond particles larger than themselves,

I spoke to the guy at Shelley's Shelley's Lapidary Supplies Pty Ltd & their diamond spray is an alcohol/oil mix.
Don't know if that is homogenous enough for strop use but would certainly require degreasing the blade pre leather strop. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Hey Brighty
I have used this diamond powder before and found that like any powder dissolving it in some hoppe's number 9 gun oil made it real easy to apply to a strop. The paste also seems to give you a nice edge on your blade. I don't use it very often though as I am partial to the edge I get from dovo black.
Though I will say you will be passing that much of the powder on to your great grand kids probably. I got 10 cts of it and have more then I will probably ever use.

Thanked: 522There is nothing like an evenly distributed diamond spray which is suspended in alchohol and that is how it is sold. Again, the medium, whether it be diamond or anyother substance must be evenly distributed to be totally effective.
My message is do not make your own medium, buy the alchohol medium and let the good times roll. Two or three pump sprays on my hanging felt strop and I am way ahead of the game. I do not have to worry about large clumps of diamond crystals destroying my already good edge. Stop defeating your purpose and use the highly recommended mixture. Diamond spray in an alchohol base. Shake well and sleep well.!!!JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

Thanked: 94Brighty,
Get yourself a sample of CrOx first.
Your experience will be your own, but I prefer the face feel of razors stropped on CrOx than those stropped on diamond.
No point spending a fortune only to realise at a later date that you made the wrong choice for yourself.

Well, i finally got my diamond powder in! I have distributed with some member so i'm down to about 50 carats lol but from the first test, 50 ct should last a life time. even 25 would last a life time lol
First try was mixing it with a Dovo yellow paste (about a pea sized amount of paste and probably 0.3 carats +/-) and applying it to a strop. It mixed very well, no lumps or clumps and applied about as well as the Dovo red and black blocks. It has a similar feel when stropping as the Dovo crayon blocks.
Photos below.
Diamond Powder
After Mixing
Strop Before Stropping - it looks uneven although it doesn't feel uneven to touch at all, like i said, its about the same consistency applying as the Dovo crayon blocks.
Strop After Stropping 5 blades
After stropping my blade had a very shiny mirror finish, i found that going to the felt after improved it more then going from the felt to the diamond strop.
I will continue testing and keep this thread up to date. I would say it has been successful but there is still lots of room for improvements!
Any ideas for mixing and applying would be awesome!Last edited by Brighty83; 08-11-2011 at 03:25 PM.

I'm going to have a go at making a spray.
I have a 3oz bottle and i have measured out 'almost' exactly 15 carats.
It is very hard to get it exactly 15 carats because a light breeze from moving your arm or a camera next to it changes the reading by 0.00 - 0.04 carats lol.
Anyway, Below is a photo of what 15 carats looks like, and it doesn't look like much! lol
From what i understand you don't want to use much more then 15ct per 4oz so i am using a solution slightly above that. I will have a play aground and see how it dissolves.
I will post updates.
