Thanked: 485One THOUSAND newsprint? Or 100? @ 1000 I'd get out the Shapton 16k and do 10 laps, then strop as normal (30/70), then strop again (30/70) pre shave. For me, that would be easier...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 15I can't claim any major honing experience which is maybe why I also do a lot more stropping on a newly honed blade than I use in my normal shaving routine (about 50 passes).
I finish hone on a Thuringian then (using a Dovo strop) give it 50 passes on the linen followed by about 100 passes on clean leather.

Thanked: 4249Thats my understanding that the ink act as a paste, like on a pasted strop, so far my experienced with it been good,
definately gives a smoothness to the edge i have yet to look under the loupe, next time one of my razors needs a touch up
i will do that for sure, see if there a change in the look of the edge, time will tell.......

Stropping after honing depends on the hones you used and how high you went on fineness. If I go 1k, norton 4/8, coticule, jnat, Escher I will only make about 30 laps on leather because the edge is so fine. If I went 8k to coticule then I would make 60linen/60leather. It really depends on how fine you're finishing is.

I finally tried shaving right off my Oozuku today after a touchup--not stropping at all. Smooth, sharp & very little difference compared to stropping!

Stropping is king, honing is queen! Normally my razors don't require as much stropping between shaves as they do right after honing, especially after a progression honing from a bevel set
