    Default Securing a Strop

    Gentlemen,

Newbie here, havent even purchased a strop yet, but when i do and i start to use it... i'm not exactly sure where/how to secure it. I've seen in videos that it needs to be attached to something that will not move so that i dont end up rolling the edge of my blade.

    What suggestions do you have?

Welcome to SRP. For a long time I had mine secured to a door knob with a zip tie. I still have some like that but I also put an eye bolt in an adjacent door jamb and hook to that as well. More solid than the door in that it won't move at all. I like my strop about waist high but that is a matter of preference.

I use one of those survival bracelets, made from para cord. I loop it through the hand towel rack then thought the steel loop on my strops. Already had it laying around and it fit my needs well.

The quick release buckle is nice too.

My strop has a snap hook at the end which I hook to a screw eye imbedded in a solid oak cabinet bolted to the wall above the toilet. That strop is going nowhere and the is a slight upward angle to it. Not particularly pretty but works well.

My Husky loves to play tug of war so I just hook the strop to him and yell mush and he pulls it as tight as it needs to be. But now he wants more biscuits as payment.

Actually I pulled the center hinge pin in the door up a tad and hook the strop to that.

I have my strop in my bedroom, attached to hook about chest high. This is the height I found most comfortable but your mileage may vary.

Mine is snap hooked to an eyehook screwed into my bathroom door casing (very small powder room). The bottom of the strap is waist level and the top of the strop is at the middle of my belly (slight upgrade). I stand off to the side a bit as it seems more natural than going straight up and down in front of me.

    Default Mancave

I do my stropping in the comfort of the mancave, SWMBO generally leaves me be. Generally, that is.

Tie it to a door knob or towel rail with string or shoelace. That is usually the easiest method. It does depend on the strop and its attachment mechanism, but a bit of string can usually be made to fit.
