Thanked: 334Draqon Hide for Strops
SRP member Nightblade posted the following in another thread:
"Dare I suggest someone make a strop that says pure dragon hide on one end and Smaug on the other with a dragon claw print on it.....I can't help myself sorry wayyyyy off topic." -- Nightblade
Dragon hide strops...no nicks ever! Probably be kind of hard to condition w/palm sweat.
What do my fellow SRP members think?

They would be even more sought after than cordovan strops as the only part of a dragon that possiby would be suitable for a strop would be soft area on the belly
Need help or tutoring? Check out the .

I dunno. Seems to me if you lifted the spine while stropping, it would crack the edge of your razor right off.
Might be useful for repairing chips on a damaged edge before setting a bevel on a 1K. ;-)

Thanked: 3215I have a strop made from Kevlar racing seat belt and it is ok, but not as good as other Poly/nylon fine weave strops. Actually any poly strop is almost nick proof.
You can strop edge forward on most Poly/nylon strops without cutting the strop and are great for some learning to strop. It will also give about the same result as leather, as stropping is more about technique than material. Once proper technique in learned, then buy a good leather strop where the strop will, now make a difference.
Poly/nylon make great pasted strops.

Thinking no... not gonna happen.
Dragons...big honking lizards. Crocodiles... big honking lizards. Leather's probably gonna have scales on it, just like a croc, which'll probably trash your edge.
Besides.. the aquisition fees, import taxes, duties and tarriffs on rare animal hides would make it prohibitively expensive, not to mention the fee for the guy skinning the dragon.

Thanked: 1160You may be right on the fees and tarriffs and all but....let's stop thinking like Dwarves and be a little more Elven like shall we. Dragons are pretty big..one scale would probabley yield about two or three strops alone ,and as for breaking blades, need I remind y'all that when I made said statement it was in reference to sharpening the blade of Sauron !! HEELLOOO !!...CAN ONLY BE DESTROYED IN MT. DOOM REMEMBER??!! On top of that, there are plenty of filthy little Orcs,Trolls of various sizes oh yes and let's not forget our friends the Baruk Hai mmhmm ,yeah , ya think they got soft metal fer blades ? Oh no...they probably got whiskers like barbed wire...in fact , I'll bet they all use uber wedges cause a hollow grind aint gonna do it ! And don't count out Tree beard either ...I mean have ya seen his mug lately ??There's a market in Morder people .....ya just gotta be a little more proactive is all .... I'm gonna milk this Orc icon for all it's worth I am heh !

In that context, I suppose it might work. Consider using Mithril in place of linen, though.
You aren't referring to fell beasts, right? You understand, the Witch King fed them only foul meats, so you'd likely never get the stink out of those strops. :-p
