Maybe it's a combination of how tight you pull the strop and how much pressure you use on the razor?

Lynn has a great stropping video that may help. Just shy of the 4:00 mark he gets into pressure and how tight to pull the strop. I was surprised when I first watched it how much give there was in the strop, so one thing I'm really curious about with the stroptober thread is seeing just how much play there is in my strop!
Anyway, here's the vid. The whole thing is worth watching for sure, but the specific bit relating to your questions starts about 3:50 or so in.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanks for the video. Wow that strop was bowing a lot! I was pulling on my strop so hard it didn't even move! LOL He looks like he is using a lot more pressure then I use but he knows what he is doing. I got a lot of practicing to do! I'm talking about Lynn's video

Don't go too crazy on the pressure though! I think a lot of the bowing in his strop was due to him not pulling too hard on the strop as opposed to him applying very much downward pressure on the razor

Yea, for sure that was what I was doing wrong too, keeping the strop too taut. Must be another common problem for beginners.

I think this guy explains the finger flip well. I also found that anchoring the strop so its about at your bellybutton helped me alot. When I pull it tight the strop is flat not angled up or down, its way easier for me.Last edited by Scookum; 09-15-2012 at 02:31 AM.
