Thanked: 1184Yeah mine did that too when I hung the small block from the roof beam. :<0) Maybe pulling to tight or because of the way it was sewn on or a little flaw in the material, sharp edge or burr on the "D". Let's hope the next one works out better for you.
I came back to this thread because of your inquiry about the split strop. I watched a vendor a little while ago say both work fine. Smooth or split. He also went on to say that most of the splits he sold to guys who use them to sharpen tools. Knife guys mostly bought smooth. He said nothing about razors but I would suspect smooth would be better for a razor unless your into pastes. I'm just passing on what I heard a vendor of strops describe. I use a piece of horse hide and the linen off a 75 year old strop. There are different kinds of linen.
I also suspect there is a darn good strop maker right under your noseLast edited by 10Pups; 10-26-2013 at 03:59 AM.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 375I have 2", 2.5" and 3" strops - I'd suggest 2" or 2.5" and I think some strops are just a little to long. My 2" is about 18" long and works perfectly well for me. the 2.5" is maybe 21" and the 3" is somewhere around there too.
I ran into a cupping problems with the 3" and I believe it helped contribute to the cuts I put in my strop (some of them) and it just doesn't feel right to me. When stropping it feels like somebodies in your personal space, there's just no room to move.CHRIS
