Default How to apply diamond spray on strop?

I have been searching and reading different threads and have not got full answer for my question.

I bought Thiers-Issard paddle strop and .5 diamond spray. One side is finer and other coarser. Which side of strop to apply diamond spray and how much spray is need to apply so it will work on blade. How many strokes is enough when last waterstone before spray is 12000 grit?

ARE THERE ANY TI INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING THE FINENESS OF EACH SIDE OF THE STROP? NATURALLY THE FINEST SIDE WILL BE THE FINISH SIDE. YOU MUST DETERMINE IF YOU WANT TO FINISH ON PLAIN LEATHER OR FINISH ON THE DIAMOND SPRAY. EITHER WAY, THE FINEST SIDE OF THE STROP WILL BE THE FINAL SIDE.

THE SPRAY SHOULD BE JUST A LIGHT COATING. YOU DON'T NEED MUCH AT ALL. SHAKE THE BOTTLE . THE NUMBER OF STROKES ON THE DIAMOND SPRAY SHOULD BE THE FEWEST NUMBER THAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON THE RAZOR EDGE. I WOULD START WITH 5 STROKES TO SEE IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR SHAVE. ADD A FEW STROKES IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE ORIGINAL 5 STROKES. LESS IS MORE AS USUAL.

If your going to use Diamond Spray, normally 10 strokes does the job. As far as your paddle goes, it's hard to say. You need a virgin, unpasted, unpsprayed strop for everyday. If the paddle is addition to that, then just pick a side. I've used Leather, Balsa, Linen and Wool Felt. IME, SRD's Wool Felt is the best medium for Diamond Spray.

There should be instructions with the Diamond spray. Normally, two complete passes are needed for treatment. You do one pass, making sure all the material is sprayed evenly. Allow it to dry overnight, then repeat. It must be completely dry before use.

    Good Luck

    Jaatinen1982,

If your TI paddle is the same as mine, the lighter colored side of the 'finish' side ; mine was tan (finer nap), blue/black (coarser nap).

I have found with this strop, give the surface three (3) light sprays (the surface should not be wet, just moistened), then let it dry. Repeat and you should be good to go. I would remove excess diamond 'dust' with your palm before first use.

The diamond cuts quickly, so follow the advice given by the other posters about the number of laps and keep the pressure very light

The nap of the strop has a depth such that if you are not careful you could round the edge if too much pressure is applied.

I have found the 0.5 micron diamond to be excellent for the final finish on knives (the diamond does cut !).

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ
