CrOx Crayon sources
Does anyone know of a good sources for the chromium oxide crayon? The one on SRD has been out of stock for a while, wanted to buy from there, but I need to get one sooner than later. Is the spray on the site any better than the crayon? Thanks...

I have the .5 micron diamond spray from SRD and use it on felt. Works great. If I remember correctly, Maggard Razor had CrOx in stock, as does Whipped Dog. May not be in crayon form, but I have heard good things.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Not so much a crayon but rather a brick. More than you'll ever need if you are only using it on strops and not wheels.

Interesting - thanks for the heads up.
I have used the woodstock brick to paste a few different strops. I haven't been able to tell the difference between it and strops pasted with CrOX from a different source.
But then again I usually finish or touch up off of a natural stone of some sort. I have done touch ups every so often with the CrOX brick - I'll have to pay closer attention. Maybe I'll check out the edge after paste under a scope.Piyush

Thanked: 3215This and many “Green” polishing paste sold in hardware stores and Woodworking Supplies are not pure Chrome Oxide but contain other abrasives to cut metal for polishing. They don’t even advertise it as Chromium Oxide, but as “Green Compound”…
More importantly the grit size is not uniform and may not be suitable for razor use.
Buy your Chrome Oxide from a reputable Straight Razor supplier. The cost difference is negligible.
I have a SRD stick that I will never use up. The Green Paste may work on your razor, may not… If it works for you, use it. I have pasted on all kinds of powders, some work some don’t.
Try pasting abrasive metal polish on leather, canvas or nylon, you will be surprised at the results… Mothers, Semi Chrome and MAAS.
What counts is the shave.
