You could pull the hinge pin out of that one, use a round file and cut a path way down about 1/4 or 3/8 inch, put the swivel of your snap hook in the cut, replace the hinge pin and you are back in business with out the tie. That'd look pretty nice, especially so if you found a brass scissor hook.

i didn't think of that. the strop started out with just the tie, the swivel clip came later. the other strop uses a piece of plastic tube from a pen at both ends, sewn into the material as a stiffener, i then threaded a piece of para cord through.

I get lucky once in a while and actually come up with something useful. Amazing isn't it. I'll post a couple pictures later this evening when I get home of a couple other strop hanging ideas. I'm headed off to help preserve freedom right now.

I couldn't help not taking pictures before I left for work. These are two strops that I use when I pack a bag for travel. I get a lot of flack at home about not being able to leave stuff as is. The euphemism usually goes something like, “You spend money on things and you take it apart, mess with it and change it from what it was, can’t you leave it alone”. Or something to that affect.

The one on the left has a brass rod with handmade brass washers. The rod ends were braded to hold the washers. The rod was put through the scissor hook swivel and wrapped with a small piece of leather. The entire affair was sewn to hold the strops with a leather thong.

The other one is a Scrupleworks practice strop. The hanger was removed and re-sewn to hold the scissor hook and a piece of brass rod. A Neil Miller 2 inch piece of linen is fastened to the head of the SW strop by a leather wrap and a leather thong threaded through and tied. I lament over the leather wrap. It was just not long enough to do a proper job but I used it anyway.

    They work.

i used a bent nail for the stiffener and hanger and made "handle pockets" which i sewed together and formed with a thin piece of wood. It was then rivited the strop with chicago screws so that the leather could be replaced. hope this inspires an idea for someone.
I was going back over this thread and stopped to look admire this one again. That's a nice job Tintin. Handsome strop.
