    Default Strops and Dogs

Not sure if any of you gents have had this question before but maybe your experiences will have an answer!

I am new to all of this and am amassing my equipment. Based on the fine recommendations of this forum I have just received an Illinois 827 strop. There's a perfect place to affix it on the bathroom cabinet.

Question. I have three dogs, a corgi and two miniature dachshunds. They are my children. On the other hand the strop is made of leather. Could this be a potential recipe for disaster? Have any of you gents had a furry friend think your strop was a nice expensive chew toy?

Obviously, Plan B is to hang the strop only when I'm using it. But the question popped in my head and I was really curious if your strops have been safe or if they have been damaged.

    Thanks.

My dogs have close to a six foot reach, so I'm screwed if they decide to go after my strop!

I have 3 staffies and they have no hope of getting anywhere near anything of value unattanded.
I keep mine on a hook on the side of my bathroom cupboard as high as i can reach normally.
keeps it out of reach of pets & grandchildren
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

Well with animals each animal can be different and some won't bother at all and some will chew the heck out of it. Anyway to keep the dogs out of the bathroom. After being an animal control officer for about 15 years I've noticed dogs are like people each one is different and each one has its own personality and some like to chew things up and some don't. Also if your dogs are under two years old I would think that the potential is higher for disaster. Good luck.

If my Husky get a hold of one of my leather strops it would be gone faster than you could say Mississippi.

My Great Danes will walk over to my strops and do a distance smell sometimes. If I am using neats foot oil on a strop..... They will get up close to it and sniff a lot. One of my Danes actually busted a bottle of neats foot oil one time.

Good rule of thumb..... Put things away so the puppies can't mess with things/ items you do not want to part with.....Or if they are too quiet and out of sight...chances are, they up to no good....lol
Is it over there or over yonder?

My standard dachshunds would probably love to chew on my strops, but they will never even know they exist.

My dog ignores strops but he must think my badger brushes are furry animals (RIP Kent BK4).

I suspect given the opportunity my two Terriers would love to destroy my strop, I wouldn't chance them near it for a minute.
