Have given up on any of the hanging hair or nail tests. I just strop now and shave. If it's feels bad, strop it on CrOx a few times(20ish) and if it's still ruff I switch to a different razor.

For those that don't have or who cannot afford multiple strops, you can apply CrOx or diamond spray to the inside of the linen on your main strop and have one clean side and one touch-up side.
It's what Lynn shows in his videos and it's what I have set up.
