    Default Straightrazor designs strop

Picked up one of these gorgeous strops a few weeks ago, and was wondering can the chromium oxide paste be applied to the black poly webbing material for refreshes?

Yes, you can. Do you have something separate to use as a "linen" side? Some people just use leather daily too, without linen. But I think most use a linen side too

Yes it has both the poly webbing and leather so would be applying it to the side of the webbing that would be against the rough side of the leather

    Gentlemen,
I keep my daily strops pristine — Kanayama/Kanoyama 80000, Bison cordovan, Neil Miller cordovan and Tony Miller cowhide. Another Tony Miller is dedicated for stropping after honing, with the cotton component treated with CrOx. I suggest keeping your daily strop pristine — the only treatment you need is a daily hand rubbing — and a second strop pasted, if you need to.

paste a seatbelt out of a junked car eh? Or a vintage strop that's not so great. Or buy another piece of nylon from SRD, they sell 'em.

I suppose it never hurts to have a second strop, even if you do not hone. On the other hand, I have never found the need to paste any strop. The only reason I paste the cotton component on my after-honing strop is for an occasional blade refreshing — but I don't recall when the last time that was. A good daily stropping keeps my razors shave ready for quite a while.

I'm looking into getting a better strop. I'm pleased with the one I have, but I'd really like something else. I want one with pull rings and nice canvas side. Not having a great deal of stropping experience, I have noticed my technique getting better. I'm ashamed to say that one day it just "clicked" that I was holding the razor wrong and flipping it wrong to boot. Luckily after figuring it out thanks to some videos on here I can tell a difference. I use the thumbnail test after stropping and before shaving, then again after I shave. I can notice a definite dulling of the edge after shaving. With that as a base for comparison, I strop again. Following the post shave strop, the razor has been as sharp as it was when I started using the thumbnail test. I haven't played with the pastes any yet. To be honest I'm a bit intimidated by them and want to do some more reading up on them.

Hey WB, you do know you are dulling the blade with your thumbnail. One should re-hone/strop after every edge test fer sher.

I never use TNT after bevel setting stage, it's just a little destructive.

Sorry if I hijacking, but the TNT is too destructive?!

I'm not really doing a "draw" across the nail, just putting the blade on it and seeing if it "catches". I'm stropping after every time it touches the thumbnail from now on though. I haven't really been able to master the HHT yet, but will definitely get to work on that.
