    Dingo,
I have had the latigo and currently have the shell cordovan. They are well made strops and quite handsome.

I have one of each of the Bison strop models. They are flawless in terms of craftsmanship and hardware. The red latigo has a very heavy draw and the leather has considerably more grain and overall character than the horsehide or cordovan variants. I use the latigo with razors that have aggressive spine work that might damage lesser leathers. Bison products are pricey but very enjoyable to use. If you do your part it will outlive you plus another generation or two...

Latigo is on the far right.

Can anyone advise as to whether the the Bisons are genuine shell cordovan? They seem pricey enough to be, but I am a neophyte .. thanks

GaryG you may just want to contact the vendor through their website. They are good folks
and their leather work is top of the line. You will not be mislead. Enjoy.

Thanks Bob, I did send them an email before posting my question here, but is the weekend so didn't expect a reply as yet. I have seen the term shell used on the forms to describe them but don't see shell on their website, so thought I'd see if any of the members knew.

GaryG, here is the link to their shell cordovan strop in black. And yes it is the real deal coming from Horween who is one of two cordovan producers left. And Horween is the most well known.
Sadly Bison is out of stock on cordovan, but the demand for Horween cordovan far exceeds the supply. You could still order one and discuss the potential availability with the owner of Bison.

Since I raised the question I should note that Bison got back to me very quickly Sunday night in answer to my query. They confirmed that their products are genuine shell cordovan. Unfortunately as noted they are out, and have no expected date for new stock save "Hopefully before the end of the year" ..

I just got my Bison horse hide strop. Great feel, very well made strop. It is a big upgrade for me from my beginner strop… I would recommend this strop…
