    Default Kanayama Cordovan Strop 90000

I'm waiting for my new strop to arrive and gathering info in advance.
Like softening the linen part with fabric softener .
I was reading this statement :
What we should do is to use clean cotton towel soaking in lukewarm water, and it should be not too much wet, but not too dry the towel. And then, we wipe the strop the front side of the strop until little before the lukewarm water going through all the way to the back side, and then it makes dry naturally. That is the way what we make the strop making shinny and smoother. According to Mr. Naomi, we should not apply on any oil on Cordovan strop. The oil collects dust, and it makes losing smoothness on the Cordovan strop, and it makes not as the finishing quality strop anymore.
Has anyone done this? How did it turn out?

All I've ever done on one or two of my strops is treat them with a dab of neatsfoot oil. For the rest of them I've stuck with the occasional palm rubbing. I'm sure Naomi San knows a bit more about strops than I do though.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have my #3 quite a few years and I've never done anything to it and it's in brand new condition.

A drop of Neats Foot Oil worked into my palm, and then palm the strop. And most of my strops have never even had this. For the strops with too much draw, a very lightly moistened (with water) cloth to clear oils and waxes to reduce draw. That's it!

Never done anything to my K #3, and don't forsee it ... Other than changing out the suede for Torolf's leather trimmed natural linen, which I am anxiously awaiting.

That said, congratulations on the K 90!!

I have used my 90000 for years with nothing but a good palm rubdown before each use and it still has the original smooth, slick, almost-no-draw feel to it. The western style oxblood cordovan shell that Neil Miller and others use can benefit from the occasional carnauba was treatment but this is not recommended for the Kanayama-style finish.

IMO, the only reason to apply any sort of oil to a strop would be if it dried out and stiffened up in long term storage. The damp cloth cleaning you mention is needed only if the strop gets dirty somehow. You will likely never need to do that to your strop. I predict that you will love the K90!

Yes I have used the water wipe down for a few years now, I like the results, from two applications of a damp washcloth about 4 hours apart then a vigorous palm rubbing...

Then again I also like the lather wipe down too

Just not a big fan of oil or conditioners in a bottle, try it and see if you like it, the good news it that you can always add oil if you want later, but it is a bit harder to take it away

Dust is natural and you can't assign grit ratings to naturals.

Never used oil on my Kanayamas. Suspect a radical draw change if you do. The damp rag works a treat .

For softening the linen I used a steel brush on mine. It doesn't destroy the linen as you might think but it does fluff up the fibres enough to cushion the razor a bit more.

I think down the line I will do what Mr. Naomi advises, to get more of a shine to it.
I normally use mink oil on my bridle strop.
One thing I never do is rub down with my palm, because I don't want to own anything that requires sweat to improve it haha.
I'm used to a 3 inch strop although my first strop was a 2.5 , I hope I get used to this one.
I cant wait for it to arrive.
