    Gentlemen,
At first, I could not get used to the suede component and opted for the cotton, which is quite stiff. Later, I began to appreciate the suede component, and now use it exclusively with the leather. Jaime, I know what you mean, my friend.

Hello, I read the the numbers to identify the strops has changed during the years.
So what do you think about this #600 Kanayama? And Genuine shell means cordovan? Thanks a lot.

The higher numbers mean higher end but the strop quality is the same with all of them. The higher end are larger and thicker but the razor doesn't care it just sees the surface and that is the same on all.

I hope you are NOT keeping that strop folded over like that.

Thank you very much. So basically a #600 should be the same of #6000 or 60000 or am I wrong? I have seen people talking of #3 size, so this could be a "#6"size, right?

It's not mine it's a picture I found surfing the net

As mentioned above the current numbering system refers to the thickness of the shell leather along with the width and the length. There have been many, many variations on Kanoyama strops over the years. Several different stamps (mostly annimals or a bird) in different colors. Strops made for different retailers may be marked differently as well.
Here is a Kanoyama strop made for a German retailer which included an upgraded fastener. It would be the equivalent of the 30,000. AFAIK all Kanoyama strops are shell.

I clean my new Pelican strop , rubb it generously with 1to 1 mix of hot water and talow chaving soap / Arko / . I clean and bleach the coton linen strop and is snow white now . It works Fabulous.
The only problem is that i try the face side of the pelican and is slick as ice . It has some kind of coating on it - shiny , red coat . It has practicaly no draw , at all .
What have i done - i strop and i strop and i strop over 120 times and i have the feeling that nothing hapened . I dont lile this at all .
I turned the strop and i strop on the back side , and it was fine feeling . Everything was ok . but the face is slick and useless .
I have 2 other vintage horse strops that i made a padles ,and they are all the same thing . Only after sanding it down and rubbing leather conditioner ,they get some draw ,and began to work .
If i have to sand it or broke in it , why it is writen broke in . It is slick ,and the leather surface sounds noisy and harder than my favourite bovine strops - Latigo and natural cowhide . What should i do - the feeling is like im stropping on plastic bag .
Doesnt like it t all and this Pelican Nishiri strop , was almost new - pliable and good .

I got the #3 from Aframestokyo earlier this year, and yesterday I ordered the #60,000 from the same. The vendor at Aframestokyo (Takeshi Aoki), emailed me yesterday to confirm dispatch, and he happened to mention that I got the last one. I have emailed him back to see if he expects more stock in the future, as his website shows all the Kanayama's he stocked as now being unavailable.

I hope for the sake of other purchasers that he can still get these great strops. There are other online vendors selling Kanayamas that show some stock, but Aframestokyo has by far and away the best prices. I saw a #60,000 on a couple of other sites yesterday for nearly twice the price that Aframestokyo are/were charging.
That is a better price for the 60k. thanks!

Too bad the 90,000 is sold out. But the 60,000 is decent compared to what others are asking for a 50,000...
