Ordering a Scrupleworks Oil Tanned Horween Horsehide... pic request & thoughts
I am now in the market for a new strop... I am going for a 2.5" Scrupleworks Oil Tanned Horween Horsehide.
No handles but rather than bare barber ends, I am going to request Torolf add some end caps just to have something to hold onto. Essentially, finish the ends as he would with handles and leave the handles off. I have seen and am considering the "T" hardware.. pretty cool.
Not sure what my color options are going to be since I haven't heard back from Torolf yet.. but the more natural the color can be, the better. I prefer to leave it undied if possible and let use & time determine the color.
Still undecided if I want natural linen or cotton and to be frank, I may get both. But I may choose to have them all separate and detached from each other. Three separate components. I have natural linen on my Tony Miller. I'd like to try cotton as well, but since Torolf builds the strops in a non-modular fashion, I don't want to be cornered in to one material. Hence the three separate components.
I would love to see some pictures of your Scrupleworks Oil Tanned Horween Horsehide strops!!

No oil tanned here ... Vegetable tanned horse. But, the workmanship and draw are superb! I also have barber ends, which at this point in my shaving evolution, are my choice..
You made a great choice in strops!
Both photos, the Scrupleworks pictured with a Kanayama #3, which sports Torolf's Natural Linen as a second component.

IME, regarding the color of the strop in general ....... if you strop like I do, a natural color will darken with use to a mottled effect. A dyed strop will not show that as much, but will show scuffs. The only solution to that ...... if you strop like I do ....... is don't use them. Let 'em hang and admire them. I don't know how other people strop so maybe it is just me ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
