Can Strop be Saved
Found an Illinois 127 strop at a thrift store for $4. The linen is great, but the leather has been scratched. Can I save this leather or trash it?
Thanks, Chuck

How deep are the scratches? Can you feel them with your fingernail? That will determine what needs to be done.

To me it looks O.K.,,, I have one that is 10x worse than that one & it still performs fine.

I strop on a scratched up vintage. It never occurred to me that there was a problem with it.

That strop looks to be in good serviceable condition, but...
... if you feel the need it's pretty easy to get rid of those scratches if they're not deep. Get a damp cloth (not too damp) with a little soap on it and rub the leather vigorously with some pressure. Take another damp cloth and remove any soap residue, then Immediately take a soft cloth (like an old tee-shirt) and rub the leather firmly to dry it quickly and then take a bottle and roll it up and down the leather with pressure. I think you'll find that those scratches will disappear...
After that take a drop or two of neetsfoot oil on the palm of your hand ( or any good strop dressing )...not a lot, just a very small amount...and rub it in to the strop for a few minutes. Rub the strop until it gets good and warm.
That'll do the trick...Lupus Cohors - Appellant Mors !
