    Default Questionable Paddle Strop

Ordered this and just received it..

    Robot Check

Both sides are soft leather, about 3/16" thick.

I'm questioning the 'compounds' it came with.

I was looking for a cheaper paddle strop to start out with but i'm thinking this things isn't too impressive. For a few more beans i i think i could get a better one.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with one of these.. It's easy enough to return it.

there is really no information on the compounds in the ad. So I would not use them for my razors. Compounds are not expensive so I have no problems with tossing them into the pile of stuff used for polishing and sharpening wood working tools.

That's what spooked me. I ordered this before i saw the thread about the big green bricks of buffing compound. After reading that i am very wary of using anything that is not from a straight razor specific dealer.

The leather on this thing looks decent but for $40?

    Yeah...no.

    I think it goes back..
Yeah man its tough when you have no one to help guide you. I have been doing it for two and a half years and still ask these guys lots of questions and in some rare cases I can actually help. Far and few between...lol.

I usually never join forums.. I'm a classic lurker. Search hard enough and you can usually find an answer.. but i felt like i had to jump in the pool on this one because there isn't a single person i know in my waking life that knows a darn thing about, or wants to discuss straight razors.

Thank god for this place and everyone who is willing to help out the newbs.

This is the first forum I ever joined. Sometimes people here can joke around and new people don;t know how to take it. I think for the most part everyone here is truly trying to help those that want help. There are many places to get supplies, especially since you live in the US. You can get some nice strops. There are some crazy expensive ones too. Cheaper is better when you first start though as many get nicked up. I know mine did. Illinois strops are popular and inexpensive, I think they are all hanger though. SRD should;t be more than a few days mail from you.

MW76, I am not a big forum guy either. I am a member of 2 forums, SRP(i visit every day) and Cummins (Dodge) forum and I don't go on that one but a couple times a year.

If you stick around you will find yourself talking about a lot more than just razors and you will probably meet some great people. I talk to some of these guys through email quite often and I have met a bunch in person. All the interactions I have had have been awesome and have certainly helped me along the way.
