Thanked: 7Is my felt strop ruined ?
Hi
i have an SRD strop with felt, and the felt has got little bumps on it from picking up water droplets, I keep the strop on the inside of my bathroom door.
Is this strop ruined or can I either just ignore the little bumps, shave them flat or .....
thanks

Thanked: 3795Are the bumps on the back side? If not, then flip it over.
Can you compress them back down with pressure?

Or knock them back down by stropping a kitchen knife or something not as critical as a straight?
Go find an adventure.....

It would seem a felt strop could be washed and began anew? Never had one?
Keeping strops in a humid environment seems harmful?

Scissors or dare I say , A disposable razor , We call them fur balls. Your strop is just fine.
Felt can be washed let it air dry and your good to go.Your only as good as your last hone job.

Thanked: 3215Never had that problem with my felt strops, but nothing good is coming from storing in a very humid environment. Perhaps an exhaust vent fan would help with the humidity.
As far as the strop, I would try ironing it. That’s what they do with felt hats and wool clothing.
Iron with a press cloth over the strop and test iron the strop, in a small place on the back side. But really you need to do something about the humidity or you will have other issues.

Thanked: 7I don't think humidity is the problem as the bathroom is attached to the bedroom where the aircon is on 24/7 which reduces humidity dramatically.
Having said that I always oil my razors after use as it can be a week or so between uses, and although it may not be necessary I would rather be safe than sorry!
I tried the hammer and then kitchen knife and it has helped enormously, and I think the next step is to 'shave' the felt with a disposable. Maybe a little OCD but I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my tools and shaving equipment. The D in DMA is Duncan, my name.

Thanked: 7Hi,
Thanks for the input, but what do you mean by overloading?
I've just switched to the canvas strop from SRD as I figure it will be less likely to get and water damage. The D in DMA is Duncan, my name.
