Thanked: 101Got up early this morning. & came out to my work area"The Kitchen" & decided to try the balsa, leather & linen that I had treated with the .25 diamond spray last night. I picked out a 9/16" Shumate #25 which I have had a hard time getting a good edge on. I mean it would shave but just barely. First I took it back thru my 8,000 & 10,000 grit water hones & then did 40 rounds on the balsa substrate & finished up with my shell Koken strop. The results were noticeable. This razor has very hard steel & I think adding the diamond into the process has made a positive change to that razor.
Next I took my German made 6/8' Red Imp which is very sharp & did the same process as above except I used the Koken Scotch linen with the diamond spray & WOW that razor was sharp before but now it is probably my nicest edge in the stable. Last but not least Went thru the same process on a 5/8" Dubl Duck satin wedge& yes it is a real nice improvement & this has been a very sharp razor but I feel with more work it will be even better. Just found a piece of 3/8" X 4" bass wood that I will treat with the spray & see how that works. I found using my wife's hair dryer really shortens the drying time for the spray & works well.
Then I will take some blades I haven't worked up yet. Mainly American made & see how it goes. It's nice to have another tool in the tool box!! Great job Lynn & Company!

I use a leather topped wood block I got online. I also found that the .25 seems really forgiving for me. I regularly strop my razors 20 passes and they don't get harsh like some have mentioned diamond tends to do.

Thanked: 101I have a 3/4" Wade & Butcher Hollow ground Pre 1880's that I love & it's a great shave. This morning noticed it pulling a bit & found a very small ding close to the heel that really bugged me. You could barely feel it Honed on my 10,000 grit water hone & then my Coti under running water. Stropped on my Koken Linen with .25 Micron SRD Diamond spray then 100 laps on the Koken Shell horsehide strop. No more "Ding" on the blade & the shave is smooth as silk!
I love using a razor near 150 years old & having it be one of my top 3 shaves. How many other tools are that age & work like or better than new?
My wife found some Wade's in her family tree So we are going to see if there is any connection there.

Thanked: 101How many razors before you have to reapply the ,25 Micron Diamond spray? Also I shortened the drying time by using the family hair dryer on the Balsa sub straight. I used the stove to heat the leather sub straight Both worked out fine. I feel I like the balsa the best so far. Puts a butter smooth edge on my razors. Any thought's ?

Thanked: 3I just got one a few days ago too and loaded up a felt surface with 0.5 um diamond spray. I have to say that the first time I used it I was concerned to see diamond dust coming off the strop. It made me think about whether I wanted to breathe in diamond dust.
I think I'm going to switch to pastes and get rid of my spray. Does anyone want a bottle of 0.5 um spray that's only been used once?

Thanked: 3215It is not so much that the diamond wears out, some falls off but mostly the strop becomes contaminate with dust and debris from the razor.
If the strop is kept clean, dust free, a single application can last many months or years, the substrate also plays a factor. On balsa the diamond can become imbedded in the balsa, reducing effectiveness.
But with most pasted strops, especially micro grit pastes/sprays, dust contamination is the issue. A simple paper sleeve will help keep the strop clean. And don’t strop dirty unpolished razors…

Thanked: 101I just wanted to thank Handjam for sending me his SRD .50 Diamond spray. Got it in 2 days all the way from Cali. He is looking for some SRD CROX to use instead of the diamond spray. If you can spare some please get in touch with him. SRD is out of it at the moment.
Man I just had a bowl of last night's chili for lunch. It does it taste better after 12 hours in the fridge. Good old Mexene chili powder is the only way to go. Yes I put beans in mine. Mainly Black beans & a can of dark red kidney beans. Heaven in a pan!
