I really dig the ones from Razorfeld. Plenty of room to simply bunch it up at the top, onto the hardware, and strop, flip the strop, etc. As-done, just slide it back down. The material he uses is not only quite colorful, but also allows it to 'breathe' unlike using a plastic bag. His unique 'coat tail' on the back side really expedites raising it up and down.

I rest my case.

Thanked: 2284When I get another strop, I'll be getting one of these from Richard. I've already beat up my good Bison made Horsehide enough that I don't care to cover it anymore. I really do think this is a good idea. I had a bridle strop that got water marks on it, and it really ticked me off.

My wife has gotten some cool material to make me some also, but what I've been using in the meantime for a couple of years is a couple old pairs of tube socks, the red wing brand no less. Has gotten me by until I seen the strop socks from Razorfelds. My wife seen them and offered to take care of it for me so I guess I'll retire the socks Tc

I'm actually going to ask my wife if she'll consider making me a pair if the these. I kind of like to think backwards to the late 1800's and early 1900's (when it comes to stuff like this) and wonder how my grandfather would have taken care of this. I think back then husbands and wives took care of things for each other more readily than today.
She'll probably turn me down but hey, it's nice to dream...Semper Fi !

I asked my Mother-in-law to make some for me.......Took the fabric and an example over which was made long ago for a Japanese barber. She has a room full of fabrics, patterns, fancy Bernina machines. One which has a pile of threads strung up and is computerized.
Will write what you tell it, and how.
4 months later, I retrieved everything and luckily found that Razorfeld does quick and reasonable work.
I highly recommend him. In fact, he has a model for 3 inch strops as well.

Bumpity-bump-bump...
Sharptonn, do you have a picture of the Japanese strop sock? I'm curious what it looks like.

Here are the pics I have, It was Yamamoto's strop.
Arsenico translated some of the Kanji;
"In Tosa, Kochi, Harimabashi I go straight to my job. I'll do my best or I will be patient"
The strop is an old Kanayama. Worn to absolute perfection.
I can tell Yamamoto was left-handed .
