First off, welcome to the world of straight razor shaving, and I hope for a smooth road and smooth face. Also, good for you for seeking out advice. A lot of people suggest starting with a cheap strop from whipped dog, as you're very likely to nick and damage your strop for the first few months of using it, and even the occasional long time/experienced user can not pay attention or get distracted by something/someone and make a mistake... It's ok, it really is. Most little nicks can be sanded down and have a little oil from your forehead rubbed in and be fine. Personally, I suggest getting one of the STraightrazordesigns strops and skipping the cheap one. The parts are interchangeable and the price of a new leather piece is the same as the cheap strop from WhippedDog. I personally started with the kangaroo one because it's the only one you couldn't order separately at the time, I don't know if you can now or not, as I've never nicked it and hope that I never do, but the most dangerous time is when you get confident and stop paying attention, so watch out for that. Hope I've helped . Have a great day and many, many great shaves!
