I found this gouache from an art supply store. I first mounted denim on a foot long fiberboard baseboard and waited for it to dry overnight. Then I watered the gouache, applied it on the denim and let it dry. It works for me.

    G'day,
I saw Alex Gilmore in one of his videos using a denim strop. I glued a layer of denim onto the back of another strop, and while I didn't put CROX on it, for an excellent pre leather application it it is cheap if you cut up a pair of old jeans. So I might try some CROX on a separate one.

    Cheers Bob.

I used white glue (elmers) to stick the denim on the board. Cheers, Gerard

Well, glad it is working for you, but they don’t tell you what is in it. While it probably contains Chromium Oxide, it does not say if anything else is in it.

And at the price of known pure and proven Chrome Oxide, it would be better to buy from a known source.

When experimenting, it is safer to paste a piece of cardboard and test, should it not work out you can toss the cardboard. If you paste linen or leather, you will never be able to completely remove the paste or spray.

Denim is a great substrate for a pasted strop.

If you wanne use the Oil- or acrylic colors beeing around this is surely a way to go, you have to check that the
additional information given is that a PG17 is included. PG17 is the one which is working with strops, balsa strops, etc.

So the best source in my point of view still Kremer, which delivers the plain pigment / abrasive:
    Chromoxidgrün

They list their Chromium Oxide as (PG 17.77288) the size of the particles is 0,3 mikron....

There are some Oil- or Acrylic Colors around which can be usable, those are:
Van Gogh Acrylic Chromium Oxide Green Nummer 668
Firma Kreul, SOLO Goya Chromoxidgrün stumpf, Premium Acryl Nr. 85124

There might be others especially in other countries, but you have to be sure that PG17
is included, otherwise you might find another pigment which wont work...

For US Markets these could probably be usable, i didnt try out till now....
Windsor & Winton - Winton Oil Colour Oxide Of Chromium / No. 459 / with PG17
