Thanked: 104A big sorry all round I guess...I am going to ask my ex-wife to return the Diamond ring I gave her 35 years ago, that was toooo much, could have picked up a Dovo 'Flowing' for that much. Good days and nick free stropping fellas,
Cheers Bob

Kaptain you do know the #3 is about the same price as the SRD strop, and it has the same quality as the ther Kanayamas. I agree a well made strop of good quality leather will all do the job, it is about preference in draw and aesthetics, if you care about those things. I bought my Kanayama about 1-1/2 years ago, and it's what I use almost exclusively because I don't like draw. Also the Scruplworks strop is a great strop, and about the same money, I think my last one from Torolf was around 120$ But ya as in most things in our hobby, it's not needed, only wanted. But I ain't giving up my Kanayama, I'd give up my Scruplworks or my Neil Miller first , and I Love them too. Tc

No Shovelhead, more torque to get that front tire up and keep it there. Tc

Thanked: 3215“but in the end I had to admit to myself, no matter how painful it was.... that a Kanayama strop, no matter how much it costs, would not present that much an improved edge over an SRD sourced strop.”
Yup, you are right, the results would be exactly the same.
I have a Kanayama and a whole bunch of vintage, some I have made and an SRD and others, they all produce the same finish. Now some vintage horse, I swear can do some magic, but that’s probably just me.
I do like the look of the Scruple Works and I’m sorry, I never bought a Neil Miller strop, but I surely don’t need either and doubt there would be any performance difference.

Thanked: 104The procedure on the Kanayama's that have the suede piece makes stropping with them a different story. There are for's and against as to the suede, but in the short time I've been using it, it's been a good experience. Now, my principal strop before the Kanayama was a 3 inch black latigo with a heavy draw. It did the job, but the slickness and feedback on the Kanayama, are a shock to my system, I absolutely took to it like a duck to water, I find the fast, lighter draw gives a great shave. But can you quantify a notable difference in the stropped edge? Most likely not. It is for me, the sum of all the parts. It's a 3 piece strop, and if you use it that way, you gain a benefit, pleasure to use, being one. Any car can get you from A to B, but getting there with a bit of style, gets the chocolates

Thanked: 104Relax fellas, we aren't talking about something hugely pocket draining here. Get a #10000 for #119.00 USD, what did you pay for you last razor, you honing stone. Take your partner out for dinner, see if it is less than a $119, the petrol in your car for a month. All I can say, is it's great to see people being careful with their spending. That's not being flippent. $119.00? C'mon.

A month? I wish, before gas came down it took 100$ to fill mine. Tc
