Thanked: 24Theres a thread over at B&B under Hones & Honing about a fellow that just got back from Japan, met the maker and detailed his experiences, pictures etc. Very cool thread, I think its something like, I just went to Japan and came back with... In short, it is a one man operation, he is 80ish and the maker's son chose not to follow in his father's footsteps.
After reading that, I snapped up a 80k pronto off ebay. Very happy with it too.
Cheers,
Brian

That thread was a couple years ago, but ya I shows you that there won't be any more when he's gone. Tc

Well that is news to me. Not that I have that much of a finger on the pulse of the wet shaving world, but I think AframesTokyo would be making people aware of that if it is true. OTOH, Naomi San is certainly getting to an age where he may fold the tent. He cannot go on forever.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 104The only response to that for me is; The Kanayama range of strops, will not deteriorate over many years if one chooses to put a couple aside for posterity. (I now have two in cotton wool, new un-touched a #70000 and a #10000) Leaving me with a new #70000 as my daily strop. So I won't be looking for any more strops from anyone. I'd probably be right in saying my 5 yr old grandson, will probably inherit a brand new Kanayama strop once I bite the dust. I collected these due to uncertainty over future supply, and after using one, I can't compare it to any other type of strop I've owned, so I have a supply that will last a lifetime or two. The other determining factor for supporting these strops was a look on this forum seeing the people who own a couple, lots of years experience among them, razor royalty in fact.

The more I read the thread the more I'm motivated to break my 80k. After all, I'm not a collector and to keep it in a closet doesn't serve any purpose to me. Thanks to SRP for making me realize these are items to be used and enjoyed, not to sit in a closet pending some guys farewell :-)

Thanked: 3215Yea, use it, or when your gone, your kids will sell it for a dollar in a garage sale…
It kills me to go to Estate Sales and see folk’s collections broken up and sold for pennies.

BadB, no more posting imperial shave's ads. Not only is there claim a disservice to Kanayama strops as they are still in business. Their other claim about there has never been a full 3" shell strop is also a falsehood.
Pegasus strops stand on their own as very well made and great performers. There is no good reason to distract from an outstanding strop by adding falsehoods about their competition.Last edited by lz6; 08-25-2016 at 07:26 PM.

Thanked: 104Get that sucker out mate, I have one to use new #70000 and one to fondle from time to time.... I'm just a hopeless unashamed addict. For some time now I've been known to buy two of something that is excellent. ie, I have two top of the line Leather man multi tools. One has been sitting quietly in it's box for 3 years. I have two Dovo prima Klang 5/8 2 Hartsteel 7/8, 2 Dovo Grenadille 6/8. You know, insanity doesn't appear in my family history, but some of my family members tend to think I'm a bit odd. It's not me, doesn't everyone have two pairs of Bose headphones? 2 lapping plates 3 10k stones, can't see the problem having 3 Kanayamas either.......I like the look of those nice electric buffing wheels apparently you can get one with two wheels, that might just do it....dribble dribble , oh no the men in white coats are at the door. I'm not a hoarder by any means, my house is very tidy, just most of the nice things are small and expensive. I only have one car, this of course is not to cast aspersions on mental Illness it is meant only in good humour. Bob
