Thanked: 104Just a comment re blokes, who would like the full Kanayama Cordovan strop experience. If you shop around, (There are only 3 to choose from..lol) You can pick up a #10000 from Aframestokyo for $119 US. That gives you a cordovan leather strop plus canvas piece. The higher end strops (#70,#80.#90) Come with a 3rd piece, a piece with a super smooth suede surface for use in the pre cordovan final stropping. Those who have them, like them. I do. I may be criticized here but I have a #10000 and two #70000 Kanayamas. I looked at the cordovan stropping piece of each strop, and from a 'look' they were a little thicker than the smaller #10000. Otherwise the only difference was the suede piece. What I'm getting at is you can, if you seek it, buy the suede piece on its own. Now , I have three complete 3 part strops. The only company who sells the suede piece at the moment is JNS. Why do I have 3? A son, I'm trying to encourage in the ways of the 'force', and I have four bloody grand sons. Get my drift....lol Cheers Bob

Thanked: 104A question for our learned friends. As you may have read, I have 3 Kanayama's. The #70000 is my daily strop. I have another untouched #70000 and a #10000 with suede piece, also untouched. I read somewhere but can't recall where, but it was suggested that when storing strops like the Kanayama's they should be hung in a closet. At the moment they remain in their plastic wrapping and box they arrived in. I understand that it's not wise to allow leather to became dry and brittle, but from examining my other strops, and checking these Kanayama's I am loath to put oil on any of the Kanayama's at this stage. the daily strop gets a palm rub, that's it. So, do I take it out of the plastic sleeve and hang or, just leave it laying flat in it's box, bearing in mind they might no see any action in a while. I've seen a fair few NOS on the ebay over the last few years and they look in good nick, for being left alone. Cheers Bob

I have the #30000 and a #60000, the 6 is untouched like you mention yours is, still in the original wrapping and box it came in.
I have no plans to touch it, other than the day I decide to retire the #30000 and bring out the new one, at which time I will probably just palm rub it. If it is unusually dry, as things sometimes get in winter here, I may use a tiny dab of Fromm Strop Dressing, which I've used a number of times and it is perfect for refreshing the oils on a strop if needed.
From my experience, a little dab on a cloth, and a good rub into the strop, couple of hours later its gone, and the strop is perfect.
YMMV.

As I recall the maker says palm rubbing and an occasional dusting with a damp cloth is all those strops should ever get.
My number 3 is probably 5 years old (at least) and the humidity here is in single digits most of the year and it hasn't needed anything. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 104Agree with that, and if anyone has any doubts, the description of Kanayama's and their treatment (canvas too) is part of the descriptions/instructions that are on the AframesTokyo site, and he says, interestingly, not to put oil on these strops, and as you mentioned TBS, a palm rub is my routine, with most strops, but I just don't want to mess with the draw of the Kanayama.

Thanked: 104When comparing the T Miller strops to Kanayama strops, you need to consider that the Miller is 65mm or 2 1/2 inches wide. The Cordovan stropping surface and the suede 2Nd piece of the Kanayama's is 68mm or 2 3/4 inches. Makes a difference those 3mm. However the canvas piece is thinner at 65mm. The difference is easy to see when going from the Kanayama's canvas piece to its primary leather as far as lateral movement of the razor on the strop.

So... the question is... do the 6 cm extra on the #90000 pay for the $70 and lack of case when compared to the #80000?
i would sa, those extra 6mm of lengt.. in a piece of leather so difficult to achieve in those lengths, like a real horse hide sure costs 70$ more.. but why.. in the name of all Saints!!!! why no case for it????? i mena, the ase is cheap vinyl.. i bet idt does not cost more than 10$ to make one...
in fact.. the price of the strop runs higher, cause the linen already comes ou ofthe clip. soyou would need an tra clip for 12$ and if you want the case tyo save if gfrom dust and all that crap..... it would be another 23$ ( don't even know if it wold be robust enoug for putting both the two leather strop and the linen in the same case... but let's assume it is)
do you think those 6 extra inches worth it?
thanks!
