I have the SRD Premium I, III, and IV strops and love using them all. One has the upgraded premium webbing (cotton I think) which I prefer to the standard webbing, but other than that I do not prefer any one strop over another. They all vary in draw and accomplish the same end goal. Good luck choosing your first strop!

mine is a latigo from SRD.. love it... one day when i'm not poor anymore i'll go for a premium.. didn't love the poly-webbing thought, it's alright but now use cotton or linen hose.. and then latigo or a pece of kangarroo that i got from an australian guy whe in need less drag..
but ALWAYs after finish honing, my razors have a date with the SRD latigo leather.

I'm still making up my mind on SRD's webbing. I started with an Illinois 827 with linen and leather. At first I didn't like the linen, but it grew on me. I want to say I prefer that, but I'm trying to give the SRD webbing material some more time before I replace it with something else. I like the auditory feed back, but it just doesn't feel 'right' after getting used to linen.

As for the actual strop material I got the buffalo because it was supposed to have heavy draw. It doesn't, at least not by my standards. But I do like the leather portion. Seems to work rather well. SRD makes a good strop, I just wish they had a linen option for a secondary material.

I also have the Buffalo, and agree that it doesn't have a heavy draw.
I will say it has gotten a bit heavier with hand/palm rubbing it before each use. But just a bit heavier

Marshall if you like linen (and there's no reason not to like) the best natural linen I know if since Neil passes, is sourced by Torolf at Scrupleworks. It's the best I've tried and now it's the only one I use, with any strops I have. I hung it on the back of my Kanayama too.

You can order just a linen strop from him,,that's why I have more linens than strops from him, although his strops are some of my favorites behind the Kanayama. Prices are really good too with the exchange rate. Give him an email. You won't be disappointed. Tc

Keep your eyes open at flea markets antique shops & even garage sales for a vintage shell horse hide strop. I got a Koken shell at a antique shop for around $30.00 & a Jager shell for $5.00 at a garage sale. Best strops I have ever owned!
