Thanked: 4Time to buy a new strop
Hello gents,
I have Scrupleworks Torolf strop - excellent. It's time to buy a new strop.
Which strop is considered the best and why?
I think about KANAYAMA Cordovan #80000 or WESTHOLME 3" Shell Cordovan & Natural Linen, but I am willing to listen to other opinions, advice.
With respect,
Thanks in advance.

Thanked: 4828Well the two on my shopping list are a Scruppleworks and a Westholme.
The best I have is going to be my workhorse. It was made by a member here, DryGulch. I forget the details exactly. The leather component is horse belly, second is hemp. It is really a great strop. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

You can't go wrong with a Kanoyama. The secondary is either hemp or jute according to previous discussions. An 80000 is a fine choice, I actually have two, a bought-used one that's a daily driver and a new one set aside for the time being. If you don't want to pay for the case and suede 3rd component, the 70000 is also an excellent choice.
Cheers, Steve

Your comment makes me think you have worn out your strop and need a new one. But more than likely you just want a new one. Scrupleworks is a great strop, now the others you are thinking of are two of the best going right now, so buy with confidence. Tc

Thanked: 104My everyday strop is the Kanayama #70000. I also have an #80000. Both are exceptional and my edges are great, as are the shaves. To be fair, it's hard to really separate the higher end Kanayama strops. So, if I was to recommend one, I'd buy a #70000. Brilliant strop, wonderful results.

Thanked: 104When considering strops the calibre of the Kanayama's, Scrupelworks, Westholme, T Miller, be sure you know the type of draw you want. As far as Kanayama goes, they are slick, quick, and feel great in use. The #80000 and #70000 also come with a 3rd piece, which is suede. It is debatable as to its impact on the edge, however in my routine it is lovely to use, and is part of my kit for everyday.

Thanked: 4I don't have much experience, Scrupleworks (3" Horween oil tanned Horsehide/ Natural Linen) my first and only strop, so I have nothing to compare.
Friend wrote to me that his very experienced friend has been enjoying the Mastro Livi loom strop, and likes it so well that he's sold the above strops.
The task became even more difficult...

Obie also has the Livi loom strop and swears by it. I'm not sure if he's compared it to the others on your shopping list though. If he doesn't see your post here, shoot him a PM if you are also considering the Livi.

Thanked: 0Hi,
my daily strop is a Westholme 2.5" cordovan. It is stunning to look at but even better to use. It transformed by stropping (well the cordovan bit).
