I think like JimmyHAD if I were actively honing I might leave the tape on. Just in case for whatever reason I discovered after stropping I needed to revisit the rocks.

But if we're talking daily maintenance stropping I imagine the leather should give enough to make up the difference created by a layer or 2 of tape. So I wouldn't fuss over re-taping a razor for daily shave stropping.

Yeah, +1, I would never tape a razor just to strop it.

I got my Abrams modular within a couple of days after they were released to the market. I am crazy about this set up. If I am honing any of my razors that require tape the tape stays on through final stropping. I have 3 felts that I use depending on the occasion, green, diamond spray and plain.

I have hanging strops, Lynn's modular and Mastro Livi's loom strop. I find the Livi loom to be superior. His combination of chromium oxide on fine linen on one side and probably the finest leather I have seen on the other gives great results. I also studied his X perpendicular stroke and find that to work the best I've tried. The blade doesn't roll and stays very flat. I have cut in half the number of laps using the Livi loom strop and technique. It just really works great for me. His loom is tight as a drum so the blade gets maximum surface on the leather or linen. Mastro Livi also states the lightest pressure on the strop will give the finest polish edge.

    What leather(s) did you get?

I am thinking of a SRD modular paddle as well.

Have thought a little about getting a Maestro Livi loom instead.

    Good info.

What size Livi loom strop did you get?

I got the default options, so I guess it's Premium 1 leather. It's very nice, almost no drag at all, it's weird at first coming from my German strop, which has a lot of drag.

Hello Steve, mine came with what would be the premium leather and it is still working perfectly for me. I added another piece of felt I got in a trade deal a few years ago. The felts could not be more handy to use and they are very well made. I use the rough leather mostly as the first leather a razor will see when I am doing restorations. I don't think you can go wrong with the modular.

I have 2. The medium and the small. I use the small for traveling and it is fantastic. Just need more laps. My every day when I am home is the medium. I also found his X stroke technique to work very well on modular or loom strops.

    Thanks!

I am getting pretty close to ordering a Livi loom strop but now am torn between small and medium. You have both and use the medium as your daily strop. That seems good to me. Only thing is some other threads have suggested the medium seems too large/cumbersome/unwieldy. I take it you don't feel that way about yours?
