When I first got my 80,000 the linen was like a washboard. I took Birnando's advice and washed it until it is soft and pliable like the old school linen on the vintage strops. Didn't need to beat it with a hammer or cuss at it ..........

My everyday strop is the Kanayama #70000. It is an excellent choice and I like many enjoy the great edges it produces. I also have an #80000 and another #70000 for back up. I have had a #50000, but got my son interested in our craft and he scored it as a gift. The canvas is stiff out of the box. I washed it in the machine a few times and now it's fine. I have found that this strop improves after a couple of months use, doing nothing to it other than use, and a palm rub every so often. I found that the draw increases fractionally, but still by any measure it's a slick strop. Enjoy your acquisition, it's a club worth being a member of.

Yeah I went with Aframe as well. I'll let you know how breaking in the fabric goes and post some pics (hopefully this weekend...seems like not enough hrs in the day on my off time)

I use the Kanayama 30k which is my first and the only strop so far. I have treated the canvas strop according to the instruction, it became much smoother and even. The leather 30k strop is pretty slick.
Some more expensive Kanayamas go with a suede strop. Is it needed? Could I get any sensible advantage for a razor edge using some coarser leather strop after my canvas strop, prior to the leather Kanayama 30k? Which one to chose for that?
Thank you in advance for your advice.

To my knowledge that is the only strop that has an intermediate component. Does it make a difference? I have one and I can't say for sure but it sure feels nice stropping on it.

Mine is misspelled. Got it from Aframestokyo.
The fabric is somewhat broke in now. Washed it per Aframe instructions minus using a Nagura. I added washing it in the machine with some Downy I borrowed and white vinegar (that's what the wife uses for fabric softer...think Marty has mentioned his wife uses the same On a side note ditch the Downy and go with the Vinegar. It's wonderful (like it better than Downy)and you can get like 2 gallons for $4 at Costco/Sams).
Back to the fabric...It did shrink, but my leather tab on the bottom didn't come off. The shrinking is no biggy. My SRD fabric side is shorter than the leather so I'm use to it. Stropping on the fabric wasn't bad. I imagine in a month or two it will be SWEET!
Of course the leather side was pure BLISS!
