The man is likely quite old. Hopefully, he is passing on some skills to young helpers.
They were hard to come by new for a while.
Now, seems there are plenty.. A good strop is exactly that!
All of my older ones are sewn or riveted on.

Thanked: 4200Truly a fine, fine strop.
I have the 3 and consider getting the 60 or 90k for special occasions and as a back up.
Terrific fast draw on his strop I find compared to my bridal leather one.
Enjoy."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

When I first got my 80,000 the linen was like a washboard. I took Birnando's advice and washed it until it is soft and pliable like the old school linen on the vintage strops. Didn't need to beat it with a hammer or cuss at it ..........
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 104My everyday strop is the Kanayama #70000. It is an excellent choice and I like many enjoy the great edges it produces. I also have an #80000 and another #70000 for back up. I have had a #50000, but got my son interested in our craft and he scored it as a gift. The canvas is stiff out of the box. I washed it in the machine a few times and now it's fine. I have found that this strop improves after a couple of months use, doing nothing to it other than use, and a palm rub every so often. I found that the draw increases fractionally, but still by any measure it's a slick strop. Enjoy your acquisition, it's a club worth being a member of.

Thanked: 2I use the Kanayama 30k which is my first and the only strop so far. I have treated the canvas strop according to the instruction, it became much smoother and even. The leather 30k strop is pretty slick.
Some more expensive Kanayamas go with a suede strop. Is it needed? Could I get any sensible advantage for a razor edge using some coarser leather strop after my canvas strop, prior to the leather Kanayama 30k? Which one to chose for that?
Thank you in advance for your advice.
