Thread: CrOx encrusted strop

Yup, mastro absolutely cakes his loon strops with the stuff. Scrap as much off as you can then carry on using your towel until no more CrOx comes off, once off it's a great strop to use. I found 10 laps on my small Livi is enough to refresh an edge.

WD40 will get it off, melts it, scrape off with putty knife. You can spray it, I do for leather or make a pad with paper towel, soak the pad and wipe.

You can remove it or smooth and just remove black swarf.

You do not need as much as you have on yours Paul. It does not hurt the razor, but makes a mess and you have to wipe the razor well or you will paste your plain leather.

Once it is on, it’s on for life, you can never remove all of it. But not a big deal, you can strop on Chrome Oxide daily with no problem.
Kramer Pigments sells powder, cheap there are tons of old threads with the part numbers, mix with mineral oil and apply with finger.

I know that Livi cakes his strops and I have have stropped on them. While I don't feel the need to have that much Cro-Ox on a strop, I don't really see any need to attempt to remove it.

So If you mix CroOx powder with mineral oil to apply to a fabric or leather strop, does the oil eventually go away?

Well, it ain't going to evaporate, so some will soak in and some will be transferred off by contact with whatever touches it.
