    I only suggest shipping them with the working surface out and the flesh or rough side (cloth side usually) in. Folding or even rolling the good side back on itself can cause the smooth skin to "break" from the underlying flesh and create bumps that will never go away. Mine ship in about a 12" or 13" wide box and would not suggest rolling them tighter than that, nor even leaving them in that rolled state for more than a week or so (average travel time).
