It seems HarryWally has one of the horse hides. He was extolling it's virtues a while back.

I have used the 2.5" Bison Horsehide it as a lovely draw.

Anyone have or used their bridle strop? I love the 2.5” width. Would love the cordovan but holy cow is it expensive.

I am sure I will hear some negative comments but in all honesty a strop regardless does one thing and that is maintain the edge of our straights, so ones that are made with Cordovan, tanned HH, fast bridle, English bridle, Roo etc... all do the same thing and what drives the cost up is how readily that material is and what personal embellishments that particular maker does to that strop and then there is of course the draw and size of the strop, some prefer a heavy draw and some like a fast glassy draw and some of us like 3” wide and some like 2.5”.

It all comes does to what you want to pay for but to me leather is leather for strops, I have used all sorts of strops over several years and I mean a lot and yes I do have Cordovan, Spanish Bridle, tanned HH, english or fast bridle and to be honest my edges cannot tell the difference from what they are stropped on but then I’m the guy that does only 25 laps on linen and leather for pre shave and 10/10 on post .

I've been saying this for years.

It's like everything else. There is a market for upscale products that perform no better but have some other quality folks find attractive and are willing to spend the money for.

No one claims it will do a better job. It’s sll personal preference. But myself I’d rather drive a Ferrari than a Yugo

I have a mountain mike 3” that takes 200 laps to do what my srd latigo does in 50. I rub them same amount with my palm, neither has any kind of paste or special treatment. Not sure what that’s about.
