Decisions, decisions... I haven't got a bridle but I do have an SRD Premium 1 and it is like butter. A wonderful strop. Now you guys have me lusting for a Bridle.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yes, I was referring to the SRD English Bridle. I've used it and I think it's magnificent. Also, having been to visit Lynn, I know it is his go-to strop, and he made that decision based on the results. (He does not get them for free - even though he "works for" SRD, Don makes him buy everything.)
When I was last holding one, I said out loud that unless someone does something amazing, the English Bridle will be my next strop.Last edited by holli4pirating; 12-23-2009 at 07:31 AM.

Thanked: 522I have both the Red Latigo Cowhide and Smooth Butt Section Horsehide with Smooth Cotton Second component from Tony and they are both great strops.
However, my daily use strop is a 3" piece of top grain cowhide I got from Tandy leather about two years ago. Yesterday I checked with Tandy and they presently have in stock some 3" X 66" stirrup leather which is thicker than the top grain I am now using.
This thicker stirrup cowhide is reminding me of my Illinois superthick horsehide strop that is stiffer than a bull rhinoceros in heat if you know what a I mean!!
I am going to try this thicker leather for sure and report back in the near future. I am one of those guys who would rather use something I made with my own two little hands but I also know how to appreciate quality made by someone else like Tony. I have a dilema of sorts.
If any of you decide to make a strop with leather from Tandy or anyother source, make sure you physically go to the source and hand-select the leather you will use. Some pieces will have surface flaws and you need to weed them out. Don't mail-order leather for strops. You might be disappointed.

Thanked: 1903I haven't tried the English Bridle stop yet, but my favourite when it comes to leather only is this one. Twice as expensive as the top of the line SRD strops, but if money, replaceable parts, linen or similar, and size are not your concern, it might be worth a look.
