Thanked: 96The filly is a good strop at a good price, with CrOx on the backside, I bought one for my first strop. I had to talk myself into pulling out my TM heirloom latigo/linen, cause I liked the filly so much, I am happy I finally did though, as it is a wonderful strop. I havent used a illinois but I have read good things about one or two of the models, cant remember which one/s though. SRD and Rup Razor both sell high quality higher(not too much higher) end stuff as well.

If you can afford a little more (OK, a little more than a little more) the Red Latigo that Tony Miller offers is a fine strop, as evidenced by the fact that they are so frequently out of stock. True, it's more money but you get what you pay for. (Maybe you could be saving your pennies while waiting for them to be available).

Shawn'
Here's a non-ebay link to a nice cheap strop for a newbie. Also for an an Illinois strop--a bit more epensive, but probably worth it.
Barber & Straight Razor Strops
As for pastes...If you you are just srarting out, I wouldn't recommend getting a strop that is already pasted. A professionally honed str8 razor doesn't need to be stropped on a pasted strop that soon after purchasing it."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
