    Hopefully you guys have had a chance to review. I think one could argue the best way to preserve your edge is to finish quickly, dry and oil.

    I have room for improvment.

    I brought this up because my somewhat lax practices have been giving me some blatant edge degradation.

    My strop is dirty looking-mostly from putting charcoal on it. Yet, some days I cut concrete, or grind metal, outside in dust and dirt daily, etc. I'm sure there is often nasty harsh, dusts on my clothes, in my hair, eventually prowling about my space.

    Could be I have rust and dust, neither? I've not changed jobs, nor strops.

    Rust happens, I know. Oxidation starts the second we wet the blade, so those who heat, rinse, or do extra passes are at greater risk than those who don't.

    Mparker, I think your experiment shows that linen is sharpening. With leather only 6 uses remaining as sharp as the same razor used once shows that the razor is not appreciably degrading from oxidation.
