Thanked: 530SRD Crayon is what I use too... If you look at the CrOxed component on Mastro Livi loom strops, you'll see it looks like the canvas is MADE from Chromium Oxide... I think that all you need to fear is using too many laps, not too much CrOx... Hey, it works fine for me, apparently it works fine for you.. Can't be anythign too wrong with it, right?
Cheers,

Here's what I've done to mine: one felt is .25 diamond sprayed; the other is .5 diamond sprayed. The rough and smooth leathers are untouched. I will probably pick up an additional smooth leather piece for the green paste CrOx (not that I really need to use it...but I have it). In everyday use, I start with the rough leather and move to the smooth. Great strop.

Jeremy,
I just purchased one of the SRD paddle strops and I agree that it is truly amazing.
I have never used diamond spray or chromium oxide to maintain the sharpness of a razor, so I have a simple question. How much diamond spray should I apply to the felt pad of the strop? Do I cover it completely with a heavy spray or just a light spray? If my razor has gold wash along the spine, should I cover it with tape before stropping on the diamond sprayed felt?
Your assistance on this would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to wreck the blade of my razor."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 530JHenry, Sorry I'm late on this one... Now, just so you know, the felt pads swell up easily if you overdose them, so be VERY stingy on this... You can always let it dry overnight, then add another LIGHT coat... But if you put on one heavy coat, bad results will follow... I messed up my first pad...
Do a LIGHT lap up the pad, then down, spraying steadily, but not hosing. That's IT. Then rub it lightly with fingertips to make it an even distribution...
Wait 12-24 hours, then do the same thing. Let that dry 12-24 hours... If you want more (I like to go heavy on pastes/sprays) do it once more after drying, but that's IT.
Again, go VERY light with the diamond, and all SPRAYS.
If you want a more descriptive process, or have other questions, feel free to PM
Cheers!

Thanked: 12I have read a couple of places of the rough leather as a pre-finish side-
Is this roughed surface unique in any way or just the back of a finished one?
For touch up between hone sessions would this be about right?
First use the Diamond spray on the felt side. Which .5 or.25?
Next, CrOx on a plain leather
Bridle leather for the final

Thanked: 530The rough leather is actually more like a leather version of a fabric pre-strop... my general rotation on the Paddle is (before a shave) Untreated felt, Scrub leather, Bridle leather, Premium I... However, If I'm in a hurry, I'll just go Felt then premium I...
For a touchup between honing, I usually just use a hanging CrOx (CrOx crayon on SRD Webbed Fabric)... However, on the paddle, I'd do 10 laps on .5 diamond spray on felt, followed by 15 laps on plain felt, then 20 on scrub leather, then 25 on Bridle, then 25 on Premium I... I have a different rotation for touchups with Hanging strops... But that's my paddle routine...
I'm nutty... Arent I?
Cheers.
