I think it is an admirable and courageous thing you are doing as you stand on the threshhold of manhood. You beat me by 9 years. I was 23 when I first grabbed a deadly dubl duk and began flailing away at my ugly mug.

In honor of your recently manifested manhood, I will send you free of charge a recently hand cut 2 1/2 inch wide top grain cowhide strop which is attached to a 1960's Dubl-Duk double sided linen strop with the original German hardware. This strop is definitely in very decent shape.

The only condition for this free deal is that you get your parents permission to send me your mailing address so I can send the strop.
I live in Berks County PA and you can PM me if you are interested in the strop.

    Good luck with your shaving,

    JERRY
Not very easy to find people as same as Jerry. Thank you Jerry for this great offer.

"High praise indeed", to borrow a phrase from John Cleese.

The strop in question was cut down yesterday from 3" to 2 1/2" to match the linen side. This was my daily strop until I discovered bridle leather and the rest is history. I will send this strop to the young lad when he provides me with an address.

Meanwhile perhaps some of you guys can send him helpful hints as to how not to nick a strop. His experience is limited at this time and I think a few well directed pointers might be to his benefit. Don't be shy......

I have included a photo for the curious. I like photos too......

I have only been straight shaving for five-six months so the only advice i can really give is to read as much as you can about this art. It really helped me learn, and continue to learn, to get to grips with it. There are some really helpful people in this forum who go out of their way to assist newcomers.
    Best of luck

    Joe

This is why this website is awesome. Everyone I have met on here is very generous and willing to let people try their equipment, or go to the house and help them out with their problems learning straight razors.

My biggest concern is that you might break your own heart by nicking the strop. My best advice would be to read the WIKI and when you use the strop, please strop in "slow motion" so that you can actually see the razor turn over on the strop at the precise and correct moment.

I would guess that "TIMING" is the watchword here. It will take a few weeks, or perhaps only days, of practice to acquire this elusive timing but patience is your best friend in this endeavor. Please take your time. There is no rush.

I always begin stropping with a deep breath and the "towards me" stroke. Do it the same way each time - consistency is your friend. This consistency will help promote good timing.

I have eleven hanging strops and eight flatbed strops and they are not nicked because I won't let them be nicked. I am very protective of my strops.

You know who are the "Big Guns" on this forum. Ask them to give you their best stropping advice. Don't be shy.............!

    Again, take your time.....

    Good stropping Bucko,
    JERRY
