Default I think I am gonna bite the bullet

I have been meaning to replace my strop for a while now and figure it is a good time. I am looking at the SRD ones since they are available. I am hung up between 1 and IV. I understand the draw comparisons though my old strop is a dovo reinlinder(spelling?) overpriced thing that I bought at the AoS reseller before I found this site. So, I don't really know how much draw latigo has to put it all in perspective.

I don't want anything that feels sticky when stropping.

Another thing that I am curious about for those that have tried both. Which one has a thicker piece of leather or are they the same? Do you think that will contribute to it's longevity?

While I am still waiting for my latigo strop to arrive, I have the pleasure of being able to use both the I and the IV, reviews are http://straightrazorpalace.com/strop...sh-bridle.html and http://straightrazorpalace.com/strop...premium-i.html. The Dovo Rindleder is in a different class from both. Latigo has a lot of draw, and too much for my personal taste. You should be fine with either the P I or IV, the former being slightly thicker. Thickness should be inconsequential, though, as it will not affect the strop's longevity (I expect both strops to outlive me, given the right care).

But if you have the money, I would seriously consider purchasing the extra long P IV. I quite like mine.

    Happy shopping,
    Robin

I have the premium 1 and love it. It has the perfect draw for my hand. I have the IV on my want list but haven't gotten it yet. The modular paddle is also on the want list. From what I hear the IV is a great strop and if you only use one strop the extra length would probably be very nice to have.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have the SRD P IV (regular length), and I think it's brilliant. I get into a Zen mode when I'm using it....and I'll end up stropping all of my razors just so I can play with it for a longer period of time.

The draw is just perfect for me. 50 or so laps with the palm of my hand to warm it up, and there we go. It's just great....

The Premium I is on my wish list, but I highly recommend the IV.

Get both the SRD premium 1 and SRD premium IV. Just by buying the SRD modular paddle you can have both premium leathers and then some for one price. And if you damage one or both of the leathers? the replacements are cheaper than the replacements for the strop. I have them all,the SRD premium IV long strop and the SRD Premium 1 strop and i just got the SRD modular paddle with the Premium IV leather addition. It is awesome and might be the best investment i have made yet, just for its versatility and the fact i can travel with it is worth it alone.

not sure a paddle would be as fun but something to consider.
