Spray questions
I am glad I found this post I am thinking of ordering one and wanted to see if others liked it. Will use it to refresh the blade with the sprays. My question to is how many passes is needed with the .5 diamond spray. I heard you can over do it so don't want to do that. I want to get a second spray with it for the second felt pad should I get the 1.0 micron or the .25.

When you're doing any touching up always remember its better to start with fewer strokes and add more as needed. If you overcook it at the start you cant take away strokes.
Do a touch up when the razor starts to pull or isnt cutting hair as well. Start with 10 strokes on 0.5 diamond, then strop and test shave. If that doesnt do it try another 10 strokes, then strop and test shave again.
If that still doesnt do it you'll need to go to a hone, or send the razor to a pro.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks
I just ordered the strop so I will give that a try when I get it. I got the 1.0 spray and the .5 spray so I will have two different grits. I am new to this st8 razor shaving and I have been shaving now for about 2 weeks with the razor and just stropping. I find it pulls a bit but I think this is mostly just my angle when I get towards my jaw line. I am curious to see how much the spray will help the edge.

I recommend that you hold fire with the pastes for now. Its possible that the edge needs a touch up and thats why its pulling, but you say yourself that you suspect its your technique thats causing the problems.
Does the razor shave the rest of your face without pulling? If so, I would argue that its technique thats the problem and not the razor, so dont use the pastes yet.
If the razor pulls all the time then it probably needs a touch up.
That diamond spray is quite aggressive and its easy to overhone an edge with it, so if you do use it stick rigidly to 10 (or even 5) light strokes at a time with shave tests in between. If you do 20 or 30 right off the bat you could quite easily over-do it.
Good luck and have fun!

Pastes
Yes I think it is me when it comes to certain sections of my face. The razor came from SRD and was honed by Lynn I would assume. I have shaved with it for about 2 weeks now. I would like to be able to just touch it up every couple of weeks just to make sure it stays sharp and I will do as few strokes as I can always do more but can not add back what I have taken away.

I personally prefer CrOx to diamond. Its slightly less aggressive and seems to leave a softer feeling edge on the razor. JMHO of course, and YMMV.
Both media are excellent though and will get the job done.
But also be aware that its equally possible to overcook an edge with CrOx, and too many strokes with CrOx will have the same effect as too many strokes with diamond. As Lynn often says, less strokes is better.
If you are sure you want to touch the razor up, work in 5 stroke increments as you say.
EDIT: I also forgot to say apply the paste sparingly, whichever you choose. If you totally cake the strop in paste it will be far less effective and could even make your edge worse, not better.
Good luck!Last edited by Stubear; 08-18-2010 at 01:36 PM.

spray
from what I have read you spray the pad about 4 inches away even coverage enough to get it wet but like you said don't saturate the pad.

Thanked: 39I have had the Modular Paddle for some time now and really like it.
The premium one pad they mated to it is great. I love the buttery feel it has when stropping on it.
I have also used it on trips and it works well for that if weight is not an issue. I would not take it on trips that I have to fly on.
The Modular paddle lets you focus on your stropping technique without worrying about how much tension you have on it like a hanging strop.
I would say this product was a stroke of genius on Lynn and Don's part.
