First Strop
Hello, CreativeBass:
That is an excellent strop, one of the best around. I have it and love it.
Use nothing with that strop. Leave it alone. That should be your daily strop, without pastes of any kind. Rub the leather with your hands daily to keep the leather fresh — before you take your shower, that is, when the hands have plenty of oil. I use about 25 razor strokes on the webbed fabric and about 75 on the leather and then I am ready to go for the daily shave. You can devise your own stroke numbers.
For your pastes, as the other gentlemen have suggested, buy a less expensive strop.
Regards,
Obie

I fully agree with Obie. Leave that strop alone and get a second strop for pastes. You can make a pasted strop very easily out of denim and a flat piece of wood. Just glue the denim to the wood and apply the paste.
I made one exactly like that and pasted it with 0.5 diamond spray. It works very well!

Hobby lobbby sells lengths of balsa that are perfect for that chrom paste. You just spray it down, lte it dry and stick in the bottom of the sink drawer and pull it out when you feel the tug (to shine bring the edge back)....I would put anything on that stop though...You will just ruin it....If you aren't totally satisfied with that system, roll up the sunday paper and use that after you chrom, before the strop for the sharper than sharp edge....

I went on the advise of many here and started with an inexpensive strop. If you are like me (and many others here) you will end up nicking or cutting up your first strop. Save your good strop until you no longer nick the cheaper one. Then the cheaper one becomes your strop for pastes and sprays.

Thanked: 4942The spray media either diamond or CrOx work best on the felt fabric.
You can either get a felt strip and put it on your strop or pick up a felt strop.
Have fun,
Lynn
