Non traditional strop question
Hey everybody! I just moved back to campus a month ago so I've been a bit to busy to browse the forums.
When I moved up here, I forgot my strop at home (Don't worry, I have it now, lol). Luckily, I still had my shavette style razor, but I still preferred my normal straights. I looked around for something to strop my razors on and I eventually settled on the back cover of my bible. It was very good, flat leather with a great draw, so I was pretty excited about that.
Now my question is, what other alternatives could I use as strops if I ever do something careless like forgetting my strop again. I've heard mention of using newspaper or even the palm of your hand. Anybody have experience or advice for Macgyver'd strops?

First your room mates jeans then his leather jacket!
I've used my forearm. You could probably buy a cheap pair of pleather pants at any walmart!

I've actually used my leather wallet, the lack of any paper money in there keeps the wallet pretty flat.

Thanked: 3795I know it's just a book, but I'm pretty sure I would quit shaving before I used a Bible as a strop. I guess it could have been worse, you could have opened it and spread some Chromium Oxide on a couple of pages!
I'm glad you got your real strop back.

I actually saw this mentioned before in a thread as to using a heavy book to weight down a strop. One poster suggested the Bible, another then suggested Darwin's origin of Species.
I had actually though it was one of your posts and that is why I added the comment. maybe it was someone elses.
Glad you enjoyed it....we all need to laugh at ourselves at times.

Thanked: 3795You're right. I forgot about that!
I suppose we should all laugh at ourselves--no doubt someone else is laughing at us.

Thanked: 12A "Shamoo"-knockoff from a dollar store, when stretched across a heavy book, makes a reasonable felt strop.
